Wings Unseen
The extraordinary story of ordinary women on the frontlines of WW2
Women fought on the frontlines and made up one quarter of RAF ground crew in WW2. Finally… this is their story.
England 1939. Women answer the call to defend their country, the first women to do so since Boadicea, two thousand years earlier. Among them are four remarkable women: Officer Diana Buckingham, 19 year old Edith with her brilliant mind, fearless Australian pilot Wamsay, and Florence, a skilled aircraft mechanic. Together they serve at RAF Kenley, a critical fighter base holding the line against Nazi Germany.
When the Luftwaffe attacks, this unlikely sisterhood must hold their nerve under relentless bombing and strafing fire. They keep the fighters flying and the airbase operational, knowing that if they fail, Britain will fall.
Once the war is won, the women are dismissed to homes and kitchens, where an insidious enemy is waiting for them. They are in a new, silent war: the creeping toll of trauma and isolation. This time they are alone as they fight for their sanity, and to reclaim their place in a world determined to forget them.
Inspired by real events, Wings Unseen will send you running to unbury the stories of the incredible women in your heritage. Tell Her Story.
